Which is the most important portion of the dissertation and why?

Dissertation is considered as a qualifying step towards gaining scholarships for higher studies like going for a Master degree program or a PhD degree. Writing a dissertation is considered important and also a skillful test towards one’s ability to bring in scholarships after graduation study for higher studies. Although it is considered to be really important in deciding one’s future Endeavor yet many hardly know the ways and portions that constitute a meaningful dissertation.

Abstract is the initial part of one’s dissertation and reflects a brief overview of the work before the readers and consists of less than 200 words. It gives a summary of the actual research work and must consist of lucid sentences so that everyone can get the idea behind the composition.

Introduction comes after the abstract and constitutes the initial portion of the actual dissertation and explains the essence of the research methodology and the flow of the processes in the later sections of the dissertation.

Review of Literature is considered to be the most important portion of a dissertation. This portion of the dissertation aims at focusing on the basic idea behind the research methodology followed. The understanding of the method is done by going through numerous books, journals and internet resources containing the subject of the research. A good literature review should go in a particular manner. Firstly it should focus on the objectives and finally must try to make it apparent in the theory afterwards. A literature review should be such following which a reader should be in a position to frame the hypothesis behind the work and can continue with the development of the actual work in progress. It is very much important in the sense that it forms the basic framework behind the success and respective implication of the work to be done under the guidelines of the research done and thus in a word it explains the scope of the research in the near future.

Soon after literature review it is followed by methodology which describes the way by which data related to the research work is to be collected. It is done either by primary or secondary means. Data collection by primary means involves direct interaction with people through surveys, interviews and soon. After the data is being collected it is analyzed to find out the suitable data and is usually done in long spreadsheets. It is done in a way that satisfies the objectives of the research. The data after being analyzed it is left for discussion to determine whether the research is done accordingly. After that conclusion is derived from the data obtained following the objective. Reference is extremely essential to provide for the source of one’s information used in conducting the research.

  1. The content of the dissertation should be very logical and follow a meaningful approach. It must consist of logical and sequential arrangement of statements and must not confront with the ultimate objective of the research.
  2. The Language used in framing the dissertation is important and must be composed of simple and lucid sentences for everyone to understand. In addition to that it must be free of grammatical and spelling mistakes as much as possible.
